Will Google Glass play a role in packaging?

Google Glass made its first interpack appearance. No claims were made about readiness for implementation, but process supplier AZO and technology supplier Beckhoff were able to demonstrate the concept of how these glasses could be used for production monitoring and as an HMI to interact with the manufacturing process.

The food industry has seen great advances in the packaging sector since its inception in the late 19th century, with most active and intelligent innovations occurring during the past century. These advances have led to improved food quality and safety. While some innovations have stemmed from unexpected sources, most have been driven by changing consumer preferences.
Congress considering bill to ban BPA from food packaging

Legislation has been introduced by Democrats in both chambers of Congress to ban Bisephenol-A (BPA) from food packaging. BPA creates what is known as EA or estrogenic activity in the body, which occurs when chemicals mimic the behavior of naturally occurring estrogen. Studies have shown that fetal, infant and juvenile mammals have been shown to be especially sensitive to the low doses of these reactive chemicals.

European researchers work to develop biodegradable dairy packaging

Since May 2014, The Technological Institute of Plastic in Valencia, Spain, has been coordinating research by seven companies and technological centers to develop new materials to manufacture biodegradable packages for dairy products. The project is called BIOBOTTLE, and its aim is to create multilayer and monolayer plastic bottles as well as bags to package dairy products, which in Europe are not required to be separated from the organic waste at the end of their lifespan.
Straw-based food packaging can 'meet or beat' plastic prices
