Latest IoPP Professional Perspective focused on DIM weight and GAD weight
IoPP
In today's environment of fuel surcharges and offshore manufacturing, it's important to understand how carriers determine billable weight for shipping charges. Packaging professionals can play a direct role in minimizing logistics expenses for their company if they have a better understanding of Dim weight (Dimensional weight) and GAD weight (greater of actual or dimensional weight). "Don't be a 'DIM' Wit, know your GAD," written by IoPP member Robert Meisner, CPP, assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin Stout, and published in the January issue of Packaging World, is focused on how to best determine carrier weight in transport. Elements of successful packaging
INSIDER
The truth is — even if it's pretty on the inside, if it isn't on the outside, it will languish, ignored. If your supplement product has been tested and shown to be efficacious, thus meeting its label claim, but it is ensconced in mediocre or ineffective packaging, it will assuredly be a flop. Is it a matter of being superficial? Of course not. It's a matter of multiple dynamics, coupled with manufacturing technology to ensure packaging accurately and finely strums the right notes, resonating with the intended target market who will first test it, and then buy it again and again.

But more and more facilities in North America now rely on non-human "workers" to assist in their packaging operations, either in supporting or starring roles. Automation companies and packaging machinery manufacturers continue to advance the capabilities of their systems by incorporating new technologies.
