Quick Poll results — package structure proliferation
IoPP
Some consumer product companies are making a concerted effort to simplify packaging complexity, which among other things means efforts aimed at reducing the number of SKUs, thereby making life easier in their packaging operations department. However, IoPP's Quick Poll indicates such efforts are far from universal — in fact, the total number of package structures is on the rise at some companies. For those who answered IoPP's last Quick Poll question ("During the past 12 months, have you increased or reduced the number of total package structures for your products?"), 56 percent indicated that they have increased the number of total package structures for their products; 26 percent decreased the total number of package structures; 19 percent indicated that there has been no change in their total package structures for their products. The poll results are not scientific.

Make better packaging decisions — gain a working knowledge of machinery
IoPP
Your package development team tweaks the shoulder slope on a bottle. Or, the team "finalizes" a package design and gets it to operations, only to make additional subsequent changes. These and other packaging scenarios all have implications for how well your package functions on the production line. IoPP's Packaging Machinery: Basics seminar provides introductory working knowledge to navigate these challenges successfully. It’s coming up Oct. 6-8 at Frain Industries, which for nearly 10 years has provided IoPP with its conference center and access to its expansive shop floor for hands-on learning for this seminar.

Packaging Digest
Brands today are tapping into the personalization of packaging to reach the masses one consumer at a time. Edible packaging? Retailers not quite ready to ditch the wrapper
National Public Radio

One company called WikiFoods has taken inspiration from fruit to create a frozen yogurt ball surrounded by an edible skin. But marketing glitz aside, this product shows that duplicating nature is no easy feat.
