CONTRACT PACKAGING NEWS

Co-packing for food safety
Contract Packaging Magazine
Food and beverage companies have long relied on contract manufacturers and packagers to ensure that the quality and safety of products is true to their brands' promise. Since 2008 when Wal-Mart declared it would require suppliers to be certified by a safety program accepted by the Global Food Safety Initiative, brands, labels and co-packers have been required by market realities to comply with accepted standards.

Achieving global standardization of package structures
IoPP
Global consumer goods companies are increasingly focusing their resources on fewer brands and developing products that can be adapted globally. The goal is to leverage brand equity and squeeze more revenue from their brand, package and product development expenditures. A well-thought-out structural design that can be adapted globally unleashes the full power that a global brand possesses to support pan-regional brand strategies, increase consumer awareness and build long-term brand value. Steve Gibson, senior manager of Global Beverage Packaging R&D at PepsiCo, addresses how to achieve these goals in IoPP's January edition of Packaging World's Professional Perspective.

Make better packaging decisions — gain a working knowledge of machinery
IoPP
Your package development team tweaks the shoulder slope on a bottle. Or, the team "finalizes" a package design and gets it to operations, only to make additional subsequent changes. These and other packaging scenarios all have implications for how well your package functions on the production line. IoPP's Packaging Machinery: Basics seminar provides introductory working knowledge to navigate these challenges successfully. It's coming up March 16-18 at Frain Industries, which for nearly 10 years has provided IoPP with its conference center and access to its expansive shop floor for hands-on learning for this seminar.
