The rise of composting as an end-of-use solution
Packaging Digest
Across the U.S., we continue to see a growth in the availability of composting infrastructure, as well as a growing interest in compostable products and packaging. Packaging has a prominent yet precarious place in the world of composting. On one hand, it makes sense to send food-soiled material to the composter along with the desired food nutrients. And in self-contained locations such as cafeterias and events, an all-or-nothing approach to procuring packaging for the venue minimizes confusion and sends the signal that diversion isn't complicated.

What's behind rising cap and closure demand?
Packaging World
World demand for caps and closures is projected to increase 5.6 percent per year to $58 billion in 2019 according to The Freedonia Group Inc. In a new study, Freedonia notes that in unit terms, demand is expected to rise 4 percent annually to 2.2 trillion. It says that although the majority of cap and closure demand in unit terms is for low-cost commodity types such as plastic screw caps and metal crowns, market value growth will be driven by the growing use of more sophisticated closure products in packaging for pharmaceuticals and beauty products.

New case packers make efficient changeover a wrap
Packaging Digest
This trio of servo-driven wraparound case packers shows that quick changeover and easy operation are within reach for a variety of markets and package formats. A switch from regular slotted containers to wraparound-style cases could improve pallet efficiencies and bolster column strength, as well as could cut operator time for loading case blanks because most wraparound magazines hold about twice as many blanks as typical RSCs.
