IoPP Standard Webinar

The Impact of Time and Temperature on Closure Torque Integrity

Tuesday, December 1, 2020
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM EST

Description

In this webinar, members of the MilliporeSigma packaging engineering team will discuss the company’s methodology for evaluating closure torque relaxation of primary plastic and glass containers. This methodology establishes a relaxed torque value that can be anticipated in field use of any given container and closure assembly. For DOT-regulated hazardous materials, this work enhances public safety by ensuring that container and closure assemblies meet the general requirements of 49 CFR 173.24 and specific requirements in 49 CFR 173.24 (f) that “closures on packaging be designed and closed under conditions (including the effects of temperature, pressure and vibration) normally incident to transportation.” This work is relevant to B2B and B2C e-commerce shipments.

The webinar will address four topics involved in studying the effects of time, temperature and vibration on closure torque integrity: operation and requirements of performance testing facilities, standard procedures and demonstrated best practices, test results from select plastic and glass bottle/closure assemblies and present a case study in the development of an industry standard glass 4L bottle and copolymer closure assembly.
