November 17th 2022:

Great night of throwing axes in a fun competition. Thanks to all who attended! We had such a great time we are hoping to run this event back in 2023 and pass the Champions Hatchet along to the next dead-eye of the bunch. Congrats to Doug Compton who's bulls-eyes skills clinched him the title of IoPP Central Ohio Lumberlord for 2022! Way to go Doug! 

September 21st 2022:

Amy Densborn from SWACO taught us about their diversion services and programs that help reduce waste in the landfill.  Following the discussion, we toured the Franklin County Landfill!  

August 11th 2022:

The return of our IoPP Central Ohio golf outing was a great success. In total we had 7 teams (28 golfers) and raised $1145 that we will use towards funding our 2023 Packaging Education Scholarship fund. We all had a lot of fun and we are sure we will continue to grow this event, as this was the first year back from Covid times.

Our live coast to coast webinar event was a success! We learned all about the Past, Present and Future of 3D Printing a.k.a. Additive Manufacturing. Our Guest speakers were knowledgeable and were happy to share their expertise with the attendees.  Dan Herman from Fathom Digital Manufacturing reviewed a history of 3D Printing. Adam Davis from Owens Corning discussed the present materials and applications of 3D Printing and Zackary Smith of Instaversal discussed the latest trends and possible advancements that will carry 3D Printing technology into the future.  This event is available to re-watch in its entirety on the IoPP website's On-Demand Webinars.

July 28th 2020:

Our free on-line Zoom event "Making Better Packaging Decisions, Faster" was lead by Dr. Ken Waterman, President of FreeThink Technologies. Ken lead us through information on accelerated stability testing and predictive modeling for product shelf life determination. and on how to select the appropriate moisture barriers for primary packaging of solid products. 

February 14th 2020:

A special thank you to the fine folks at Abbott Nutrition for hosting us on a tour of their newly established Packaging Laboratory at Ross Park in Columbus. Several years ago we were able to tour the Packaging Lab at their old location, and this was our chance to see how their lab evolved as they moved it across town. We had a large turnout for this extensive tour and it was an interesting and interactive tour of every piece of equipment in Abbott's Test Lab. 

 

We also took this opportunity to honor one of our Members, Jon Moyer, with the prestigious IoPP  Pi Alpha Kappa or "ΠΑΚ"  award. Recognizing an ongoing contribution to our local IoPP Chapter and the Packaging Industry as a whole. Congrats Jon!

December 5th 2019:

Cool night of throwing axes in a fun competition. Thanks to all who attended. October 18th 2019:

Several Packaging Professionals from Central Ohio as well as adjacent IoPP Chapters met to tour Amazon's state of the art Fulfillment Center in Etna, OH. For those who attended, it was an eye opening experience to see how Amazon is able to fulfill orders and deliver to your doorstep at such incredible speeds. 

September 23rd-25th 2019:

The 2019 Pack Expo in Las Vegas was highly attended and also celebrated the new partnership of IoPP and PMMI. IoPP National had a noticeable presence and also held several meetings and networking events to help engage membership and build the brand. There was a large contingency of Packaging Professionals from several companies in Central Ohio in attendance.

August 9th, 2019:

Thank you to all of the sponsors and participants who made our 16th annual golf outing a tremendous success!

 

We had a perfect day for golf weather wise and enjoyed our time on the course.

 

Congrats to the Team from Vista Packaging & Logistics on taking first place and the team from Jet Container for finishing in a close second.

 

The teams from Sealed Air also gave another strong showing! 

 

This is our only fundraiser of the year and will allow us to make a donation to the IoPP National Scholarship Fund. 

 

Thanks again for making this a great event!

July 11th, 2019:

It  ended up being a great night for a ballgame. After falling behind early, the Clippers battled back but ultimately fell short in a 4-5 loss. It was a fun night to network with IoPP peers as well! Thanks to everyone who made it out for the game!

June 10th, 2019:

We had a great turnout for our event at Design Central. We were joined by IoPP National  Executive Director Jane Chase, (CPP, Fellow) who brought us up to speed on what IoPP National is up to. We also enjoyed a very interesting presentation from the fine folks at Design Central, exploring cutting edge techniques to drive collaboration and speed to market for new packaging concepts.

March 22nd, 2019:

We were able to spend the morning at the Crimson Cup Innovation Lab, learning about details of the global coffee trade market and drinking some very fine coffee. We learned details on how coffee bean sources are located, relationships with farmers are established and governed and how new coffee bean blends are created and brought to market. We learned the basics of the roasting process and were also able to tour Crimson Cup's nearby manufacturing location to observe their large scale roasting and packaging operations.

November 8th, 2018:

Eric Hiser, Vice President Technical at ISTA was in town to provide an overview of  E-Commerce challenges that many companies face today and how ISTA testing protocols have evolved in recent years as companies like Amazon drive change in the Packaging Industry. 

October 14th - 17th 2018:

2018 proved to be the largest ever PACK EXPO International ever with nearly 45,000 attendees and 2,500 exhibitors over 1.25 million net square feet at McCormick Place in Chicago. The buzz on the show floor also confirmed that exhibitors and attendees from companies of all sizes found a rewarding experience at the event. 

September 27th 2018:

It was a fun night of Networking and Duck-Pin Bowling at the new Pins Mechanical location in Dublin. New connections were made and everyone enjoyed trying out duck-pin bowling for the first time! And the BBQ from Zachariah's Red Eye Bar-B-Que food truck was really good also! A special shout out to everyone who made the trek to be there. Especially folks who made the drive to Central Ohio from as far as Bowling Green, Indianapolis and Kalamazoo all just to attend this event! Thank you!

August 10th 2018:

We had a great Golf Outing in 2018! Thank you to all of the participating players and sponsors! 

 

The weather held out and it was a great day full of golf topped off with a dinner and raffle of really cool prizes. 

 

Thanks again for supporting our Chapter's only annual fundraiser.

 

Your continued support helps our Chapter function and helps us contribute funds towards the IoPP National Scholarship Fund.

 

Our Chapter has contributed well over $5,000 towards this National Scholarship Fund in recent years, putting us in the same contribution category level as the largest IoPP Chapters in the Nation!

July 16th 2018:

We SOLD OUT all of our tickets and had a great time out at the ballpark with family and friends from the Packaging Industry. One lucky fan in our group even caught a foul ball off the bat of one of the Clippers. That was pretty exciting and memorable for all. All in all it was a great night to watch some baseball. If you missed it this year, we will probably run this back again next year as it is becoming a favorite tradition for our Chapter.  

 

April 18th 2018:

Our April event was a behind the scenes tour of the BrewDog Brewery in Canal Winchester. A UK based brewery that chose Central Ohio as the epicenter for all things BrewDog in America. This was/is the biggest project in their Company's history. We were able to tour the brewing process and also managed to spend some time after the brewery tour to network in their attached restaurant and and enjoy the fine food and company.  

March 7-8th 2018:

Advanced Design & Manufacturing Show : We worked with the organizers of this new Expo to extend FREE admission to our IoPP Members!  In its second year, ADM Cleveland gave Advanced Manufacturing professionals a full spectrum of solution providers to explore as well as more than 50 hours of in-depth industry education at the conference.

February 22nd, 2018:

Did you know that 98% of all job transitions reference LinkedIn at some point?  A special thank you to our guest speaker Jon Moyer, who lead our group through the finer points of enhancing, and properly updating your profile on LinkedIn. We wanted to make sure our membership was in the know and that our IoPP Chapter's  focus  was on how we can help bring value to your professional development. Plus the dinner at J.Liu was awesome!

December 13th, 2017:

Several IoPP Members enjoyed networking and camaraderie at Pins Mechanical. The place was packed with several other holiday parties which lead to several run ins with others we knew outside of Packaging. We  also enjoyed a mini Star Wars-Pinball tournament  and some of the delicious brisket sandwiches served from the Paddy Wagon food truck. Good stuff!

September 12th, 2017:

After a Networking breakfast downtown at Hang Over Easy, our Members toured Rumpke's Columbus Recycling Center and Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Columbus. During the walking tour, our members learned about single stream sorting technology and saw recyclables sorted, separated and baled. The tour also included an explanation of acceptable and unacceptable recyclables and an overview of Rumpke’s recycling operation. 

August 11th, 2017:

Thank you to all of our Sponsors and participants in this year's Golf Scramble! We had great weather and were able to have a fun day of golf at Foxfire's Players Club Course. This is our Chapter's main fundraiser of the year. With your support, we have managed to donate over $6,000 over the past eight years towards the IoPP National Packaging Scholarship Education Fund!

July 19th, 2017:

A great night for baseball! We had a fun group of IoPP Members and family for what ended up being a great game full of home run blasts and dramatic plays. The game ended with an exciting play at the plate in the bottom of the ninth for a Clippers victory! The team stormed the field and celebrated at home plate, super cool.

May 16th, 2017:

We enjoyed an evening at the Napa Kitchen & Bar in Dublin, learning all about VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors) Packaging. Gary Schneider of Daubert-Cromwell gave a very informative presentation on the subject as we all enjoyed fine wine and gourmet food. Thank you to all who attended!

We also began discussions this same evening about the potential for organizing a Packaging Summit focused on the Automotive Industry. We began brainstorming this concept and will hopefully pull together an Automotive Packaging Summit in Ohio in Spring 2018!

March 24th, 2017:

We had a great tour of Abbott Nutrition's production line in downtown Columbus. We were able to see their process and learn about their packaging successes and challenges as they produce products that are distributed all over the world.

Thank you to Michele Bauer, CPP , Beth Pollock, CPP and everyone else at Abbott that helped make this a fantastic tour a reality!

December, 2016:

We enjoyed a great time at the Land-Grant Brewery in Columbus. Mark Richards, the Director of Operations gave us the full history of how their local brewery came to be. He also gave us a full tour of the brewery and the canning line. we also had a chance to sample some of their many tasty craft beers!

November, 2016:

We are took November off this year due to Pack Expo International occurring on Chicago. We had several folks from the Central Ohio area attend the show.

October, 2016:

We had another fun night of Trivia out at King Avenue 5. We had some trivia ringers in attendance, but they were nice enough this year to spread the wealth and change teams every round so that everyone could win some fantastic prizes!

 

August, 2016:
