IoPP and SPE Launch Plastics in Food Packaging: The Virtual Edition

Reston, Va.; September 10, 2020

The Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP) and the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) announce the virtual conference Plastics in Food Packaging: The Virtual Edition. Set to take place over 1.5 days on Oct. 14-15, 2020, this event will include three half-day segments focusing on sustainability, plastics ensuring food safety and the range of styles in which plastics materials can be used. Discussion also will focus on expectations for food packaging innovation in the coming years. Each segment will have its own keynote speaker.

“This joint event examines polymers and plastics from a food packaging perspective,” says Jim George, director of education, IoPP. “As an educational event, it is our mutual purpose to provide attendees with a wealth of information about the numerous food packaging functions where plastics plays a key part.”

Plastics in Food Packaging: The Virtual Edition features speakers focused on innovations in the uses of plastics and polymers with an emphasis on new technologies and manufacturing trends, as well as how the circular economy and sustainability are fundamental to the development of food packaging and its value chain.

“The synergies between plastics and packaging are almost too high to count,” says Patrick Farrey, CEO, SPE. “By bringing plastics and packaging experts together, Plastics in Food Packaging: The Virtual Edition will offer deeper understanding of the role plastics plays in the food packaging ecosystem.”
