Sustainability Lectures (15 minutes each)
  • Inspiring Change through Packaging
Sustainability is defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising future generation's needs. In this presentation, we will discuss the often-dismissed social aspect of sustainability by showcasing a protective packaging solution that directly impacts the quality of human lives. The necessary balance between social cause, optimal performance, and material choice will be highlighted.

  • Leveraging Life Cycle Assessments for Optimal Sustainable Packaging Design
In the evolving landscape of the packaging industry, sustainability has emerged as a defining principle. Students pursuing a career in packaging stand at the threshold of a dynamic industry, where sustainable practices are integral to future success. The opportunity to understand a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) holds immense value for budding packaging professionals. The focus on sustainable packaging has sparked a growing demand for comprehensive tools that can accurately measure and guide the implementation of environmentally conscious decisions.
In this breakout session, we will dive into how LCA tools influence packaging design. By utilizing an LCA tool, packaging engineers gain critical insights into the true environmental impact of packaging systems through quantitative data and tangible environmental impacts. Students will learn how to utilize LCA data to make informed decisions about material selection, design optimization, and end-of-life strategies, enabling them to align with their future organization's sustainability goals.
With real-world case studies at the forefront, students will learn to implement sustainable transformations in packaging development. This session aims to inspire and equip students to champion sustainability within their packaging careers.
Usability Lecture (30 minutes)
  • Secrets to Consumer-Centric Innovation: Packaging Human Factors and Usability Engineering
We as engineers understand the primary function of packaging is to contain, protect, preserve, and identify the product. We also understand as lifelong consumers that additional opportunities exist for packaging to create innovative experiences, empowering intuitive ease of use. Is unique design innovation preserved for the most creative among us, or is it a process from which any engineer can benefit? This session will unlock design innovation methodologies enabling engineers to target, predict, and evaluate the consumer experience beyond packaging’s primary functions.
11:15 AM: Transition time

11:30 AM
Innovation Lecture (30 minutes)
  • Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Packaging Innovation
This presentation will cover fundamental concepts in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), providing attendees with a solid understanding of these technologies. We will explore the benefits and limitations associated with the implementation of AI and ML across diverse domains, fostering critical analysis skills.
Moreover, the presentation will delve into the practical application of AI and ML in the field of packaging. Participants can expect discussions on how these technologies can be leveraged to optimize packaging design and evaluation processes. Real-world examples and case studies will be presented to illustrate the transformative potential of AI and ML in the dynamic landscape of packaging. The goal is to provide attendees with valuable insights and perspectives, equipping them to navigate the intersection of AI, ML, and packaging with confidence.
